Selected Quotes: Robert Warzycha

Following are some selected quotes from Columbus head coach Robert Warzycha.

(opening statement)

Obviously you're trying to win all the games at home, that's basic. But if you think about the first half especially, we hit the post, we had another couple of chances with Ekpo's shot and one more chance. In the second half, Jason Garey probably had two chances that could have been a goal; so you have to take the positive from this game.

Also, we learned a little bit from the second half especially because they had some crosses and they had some throw-ins; we defended well, I think, because we were on the end of those throw-ins or crosses and basically, the second ball we won also.

But, you know, a fluke happens. More than anything you have to think about the positives after this game.

(on the play of the new players)

I think overall they did well. Jed was very solid on the right side, and Alex on the left side, he was a litte bit gassed in the second half. Overall, I think he had a decent game.

(on Schelotto coming off in the second half)

He was limping a little bit after that tackle in the second half, in the beginning of the second half, and then as the game went on he was limping more and more, and so we didn't want to take any chances.

(Alex Grendi being injured as well?)

No, probably he was tired; that's why we decided to go with Cory Elenio.

(is "taking positives from this game" your message to the team now?)

We haven't talked to them yet, we're going to talk on Monday. Sometimes after a game you're just too emotional, and you may say something that you don't want to say. So we're going to talk about the game on Monday. This game is over, so we'll think about the game again and watch it on video, and then like I said take the positives from that game because we have two games coming up back to back on Thursday and on Sunday so we have to play beteter and hopefully we can score some goals away from home.

you say something you don't want to say. THis game is over, we're going to watch the video and then take the positives from this game - we have two games coming up back to back on Thursday and Sunday. we have to play better, and hopefully we can score some goals away from home.

...

They scored what, seven minutes before the end of the game, something like this? Maybe that was not enough time for us to score. I think we created another chance, the Ekpo shot that went past the post at the end, and we pushed forward for the goal, but obviously we were not lucky enough.

(were you happy with the effort that the team gave?)

I think in the second half Toronto had the better of the game, there was a lot of fouls and a lot of throw-ins, so that means they spent a lot of time in our half. We have to address that and maybe move the ball a little bit quicker next game.

(on the referee)

I can't say that the referee had a bad game, to be honest with you. I don't think he had any effect on the game. I didn't feel that way to be honest with you.

(on letting physical play go)

He has to call fouls. I don't like a physical game, to be honest with you. If we'd played the ball a little bit quicker, probably they wouldn't have had a chance to make fouls. But that depends on who you are playing.

I don't think that today, in my opinion, was a game with a lot of bad fouls or anything.
