Selected Quotes: Robert Warzycha

Following are some selected quotes from Columbus head coach Robert Warzycha.
(opening statement)
I think we played very well, we were in control of the game until we got the red card. Even when we had ten players on the field we did exceptionally well, we didn't give them any chances, and just in the end they were pushing, pushing, and I guess they got a lucky bounce.
(why can't your team seem to hold a lead?)
We were playing a man down, I don't know whether you noticed.
Its difficult to defend for 35 minutes being a man down, so that's a key today.
(did you talk to Gino today?)
No, he went straight to the locker room. I'm going to review the tape, and have my comments after that.
(no opinion on the red card?)
I didn't see it, I didn't see anything, I don't want to say anything.
(on the tactics after the red card, pulling Alejandro into the midfield)
We had four in the back, and four across the midfield, and Guillermo in front, so that was the tactic. That's the basic thing that you can do.
(did you think about making a tactical substitution?)
For who?
(Moreno, or Schelotto, to put in a more true midfielder?)
Well, I think Moreno did pretty well when we put him in the midfield, he had a lot of energy over there, and it seems like everything was working okay with him, so that's why we didn't switch.
We moved O'Rourke probably to three different positions today, so that's sometimes how the game goes.
(on being frustrated with being officially the head coach and be in this position, winless after six games)
Well, like you said, its difficult to play when you play a man down. The team is playing pretty well, even today we were winning 2-0 and then we get the red card. What can you say? It's frustrating because we've ended up getting three points at home. We've played three games and we tied three games, but we haven't lost yet. The two games at home were very tough, so there's 24 games to go.
(team improving through the game, and players shifted - why? it seemed to be positive)
The guys who are playing on the left and right side, Robbie and Ekpo and Gaven and Ekpo, they can switch any time they want. Sometimes if they're not successful and they want to switch something, then they're allowed to do that. I didn't do that, they did it by themselves, and it worked pretty well.
(?)
Sometimes we do that, if you're not successful on the one side, so you try to switch and maybe do something where you're going to be more successful on the other side.
(how do you feel about changing the tactics to get another forward up top? Or are you leaving that to your wingers?)
I'm leaving that to my wingers. We showed last season that we can be successful and we can win a championship that way. I think if we're not going to get the points in the next few games, probably we'll try to do something different. But like I said, we were winning 2-0 today actually playing a 4-4-1-1, and everything was good - until we got the red card.
So for me to switch to 3-5-2 because we got the red card doesn't make any sense. |
